Prep Optional Team and Pre Team
Girls Prep Optional Team

Prep Optional is a USAG Gymnastics competitive program designed for girls who love doing gymnastics but also want time to do other things connected with school and friends.  This program is less demanding than the USA Gymnastics level teams and you get to do your own optional routines.  These are 4 levels within the Prep Op program – Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.  Prep Op allows gymnasts to compete on all 4 events – Vault, Bars, Beam and Floor or on just some events.  A gymnast must be 10 years old to compete on the Prep Op team.  This team practices 2 days a week for about 3 hours per day.  These gymnasts attend 5-6 meets in Michigan.  The Prep Op teams follow the rules and policies stated in the girl’s team handbook.  Apparel is required for competitions.  The Prep Op gymnasts do all activities that the team gymnasts do such as the Team Christmas Party and the end of the season banquet.  Gymnasts must be evaluated and do a trial before they can join this team.

Girls Prep Optional Pre-Team
This program is for children who are interested in competitive Prep Op team but are not ready due to one of more of the following reasons:

  • Age – not 10 years old yet.
  • Ability – Have not developed the skills, strength and/or flexibility yet.
  • Time and Financial – can not commit to the team program yet.

Gymnasts will work on the skills needed to compete in Prep Op.  Emphasis will also be on increasing strength, flexibility, and dance/jumps/leaps.  The Prep Op Pre Team follows the rules and policies stated in the girl’s team handbook.  Apparel is required.  The Prep Op gymnasts do all activities that the team gymnasts do such as the Team Christmas Party and the end of the season banquet.  There are no pre-requisites to join this program.

Competitive Team (By Invitation or Try Out)
Girls USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic Level 3-10 Team
Boys USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic Level 4-10 Team & Pre Team

Mills USA offers boys and girls competitive teams for gymnasts in USA Gymnastics Levels 3-10 Junior Olympic Program.  Competitive Gymnastics is like what you see on T.V..  The gymnast learns skills and routines on all the events, vault, uneven bars (girls), beam (girls), rings (boys), high bar (boys), parallel bars (boys), pommel horse/mushroom (boys), and floor exercise.  They also work on strength and flexibility.

Gymnastics, when taught properly, can be the vehicle with which to deliver life long knowledge of physical fitness.  Jumping, running, rolling, strength and flexibility are the basic attributes of gymnastics.  Although our country has recently regressed in this area of thought, many of the worlds most advanced nations still use gymnastics as the core of their physical fitness programs.

Mills USA has made it a primary goal to insure that our program delivers more than just physical development.  Properly taught, gymnastics teaches self-esteem, self-motivation, self-discipline, dedication, determination, work ethic, time management, teamwork, team spirit, leadership, sportsmanship, respect for danger, respect for others, poise and grace.  When our students are done turning cartwheels they will have established a base of life skills that will undoubtedly assist them through all of their non-flipping years.  We measure our success not by the number of trophies on the wall, but rather on what each child can take with them once they leave the sport of gymnastics as a competitor.

Practice Times vary depending on the gymnasts level.  Beginning levels practice 2 times per week around 3 hours per day. The competitive gymnasts will attend meets during the season.  Beginning levels compete  in Michigan and at a State Meet.  There are about 5-6 meets per season.  One meet per season is always at Mills USA! The  teams will follow the rules and policies stated in the team handbook.  Team is year round.  Apparel is required for competitions. Tuition payments and policies will be monthly as stated in the handbook. The gymnasts also do many special events such as the Team Halloween and Christmas parties and the end of the season Banquet.

Testing is required to enter the team program.  If you are interested in more information please see the office to pick up a packet and set up a time be tested.  If you are interested but are not ready to join the competitive program , there are options such as the Rising Stars Classes for Boys and Girls or Prep Op Pre Team for Girls.  Brochures are available for both of these programs.
